World Series Final Game Attracts 51 Million Viewers In the United States, Canada and Japanese Markets.

The nail-biting 11-inning matchup that saw the Dodgers overcome the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 averaged a combined over 50 million viewers across the US, Canadian, and Japan markets. Major League Baseball stated this marks the most-watched World Series finale after the 1991 edition showdown featuring the Minnesota Twins and Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Breakdown

The Saturday epic game drew over 27 million audience members on Fox networks, its Spanish-language channel and their digital services. Per Nielsen, it was the second most-watched program of the previous week.

It additionally stands as the top-rated Fall Classic matchup since the 2017 final game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which averaged 29.07M. This marks a 16% improvement compared to the last finale between the Washington Nationals and Astros, which attracted 23.19 million viewers.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 ranked 4th, Game 4 was seventh, the fifth game was 8th, and Game 3 landed in thirteenth place.

International Viewership Numbers

In Canada, the climactic game recorded 11.6 million viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports. This was the most-watched English program in the country since the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding game began at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it drew 12M. This followed the previous Friday’s sixth game – where World Series Most Valuable Player Yamamoto allowed one run in six frames – drew 13.1M spectators, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic game on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Overall Averages and Trends

The entire seven-game series drew 15.71M viewers on the Fox network, a two percent increase from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This marks the first time after 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has seen audience increases for two consecutive seasons.

Counting the opening game broadcast on the Univision network, the complete US viewership was 16.1M. The total Fall Classic viewership in Japan was 9.7M and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 recorded 8.09 million viewers, an eight percent rise over last year and the network’s best postseason ratings after 2017.

Major League Baseball announced that the World Series was televised in 203 nations and regions by forty-four broadcasting partners in sixteen different languages.
