Roughly fifty vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Cars, building surfaces and postboxes were defaced, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they reported in a statement.
Law enforcement say they were notified late on Wednesday, when a individual discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued liquid.
The liquid had been applied in the shape of a banned symbol, they stated.
Police then found multiple other marked cars and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public display of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement report initial examinations suggest the substance was likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no indication as to its origin; investigators are not yet informed of any injuries in association with the occurrence," they added.
City officials said they were trying "to resolve the incident" and have requested to the public for details.
A high-ranking representative said the vandalism left him without words and had to be addressed quickly.
"This event hits the very heart of Hanau and revives the pain of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he stated on online, referring to the death of nine victims by a gunman focusing on individuals of immigrant origin in February 2020.
